   In 2014, the NJ State NWTF Chapter, Women in the Outdoors program partnered with the staff and facility of the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife and more to create unique mentored deer and turkey hunting opportunities in New Jersey. These partnerships have given us the opportunity to introduce not only women to the world of hunting in a safe, friendly, and responsible atmosphere but youth, veterans, and disabled persons too.

In 2019, we launched WITO Archery Deer Camp NJ. Sixteen women, ages 18+, attended the 2 ½ day experience to learn about archery deer hunting as well as have an opportunity to hunt with a mentor. 2020 presented many challenges in event planning; however, it also gave women the desire to learn to hunt, more than ever before. In an effort to help women find a place in the outdoors, we launched Virtual WITO Archery Deer Camp 2020. We expanded on our in-person workshop topics to bring a 6-week multimedia virtual course experience to participants. The women learned about everything from scouting to equipment to butchering and more. Because of COVID mandates, the in-person mentored hunt camp experience was only available to a small group of women. Since 2021, we have tweaked the program based on suggestions to create a better experience.

As we work to plan for 2024 WITO Deer Camp, we are excited to celebrate our 6th year. These programs and our growing chapter would not be possible without the support of our partners and sponsors. Thank YOU for having a positive role in getting women in the outdoors.
