Q. What type of internet access, apps and/or technology will be needed?
- Participants will need to have access to the internet. The entire virtual program will take place via a Google Classroom. The platform is desktop and mobile friendly.
Q. Will I have access to the content after the 7 weeks is over?
- Yes. The content will stay on the platform until updated for next years program.
Q. How long are the workshops for each week?
- Each week will vary with the amount of content. You will have the chance to view and read content at your own speed, on your own schedule.
Q. How much time will the coursework take?
- This is entirely up to the individual. Some may choose to linger on one topic more than another. There is no requirement to finish one weeks content before access to the next week is opened.
Q. How long will the virtual meetings aka Campfire Chats be?
- VWDC Volunteers will do our best to keep the weekly Campfire Meetings to 1 hour.
Q. What if I can't make a Campfire meeting -- do I have to attend every meeting to successfully complete the course?
- If you are unable to make a Campfire session, you can always catch the replay and chime in with questions or thoughts. We recognize that everyone's schedules are unique to them and ever changing, therefore it is not a requirement. This is not a pass/fail workshop.
Q. What are the in-person resources?
- For participants who live in NJ or can travel to NJ safely, we will be scheduling 1-2 in-person outdoor meet ups to spend some time going over different pieces of equipment, helping any participants who need it assistance in getting familiar with their bow (crossbow or compound) or any other topic they may wish to talk about.
Q. Do I need to be a New Jersey Resident?
- No. You do not need to be a New Jersey Resident to participate in the virtual or in-person program.
Q. Is this a virtual workshop event only, or will there be a mentored hunt portion?
- It is BOTH. There are (2) options to choose from. The Virtual Workshop ONLY and the Virtual + In Person Mentored Hunt.
Q. Do I need to have a Hunting License?
- Virtual ONLY participants do NOT need to have a hunting license.
- Participants who register for the Virtual + Mentored Hunt WITO Archery Deer Camp will need to have a valid NJ archery hunting license prior to arriving in camp on October 18, 2024.
Q. After taking this course, can I purchase a hunting license? (in the sense of "is this equivalent to hunter ed?")
*If you are not a NJ resident, we encourage you to find the rules and regulations for Hunter Education in your state. We are happy to assist you in locating this information.

Q. After taking this course, how do I find places (or people) to hunt with in my area?
- Our goal is to help you discover the resources in your area that will aid in locating hunting land and fellow hunters. You will also have access to an on-line community to make new connections.
Q. How prepared will I be to go hunt on my own after taking virtual deer camp?
- That depends on how much time and energy you give to the workshop. This program is designed to support what you have learned or will learn in a hunter education course, and to help grow your confidence as a new or beginner hunter. Virtual WITO Archery Deer Camp is meant to give you a place to learn about many of the necessary things you will need to know and give you confidence to get out there!
In-Person Camp FAQ's
Q. Can I use a Compound or Crossbow?
- Either. Crossbow, Compound, Long or Recurve bows are all legal in the State of New Jersey. A 75 pound minimum draw weight is required for a crossbow. The Compound, Long and Recurve require a 35 pound draw weight.
Q. Is archery equipment provided?
- No. Participants who register for the Virtual + Mentored Hunt WITO Archery Deer Camp will need to have their OWN archery equipment and be proficient in it's use.
Q. What type of broadhead?
- Per NJ regulations, arrows must be fitted with a well-sharpened metal broadhead with a minimum width of ¾”.
Q. Do I need to be a New Jersey Resident?
- No. You do not need to be a New Jersey Resident to participate in this program. However, you will need to be able to obtain either a Non-Resident New Jersey Archery Hunting License or Non-Resident Apprentice License.
Q. Do I need to have a Hunting License?
- Yes. Participants who register for the Virtual + Mentored Hunt WITO Archery Deer Camp will need to have a valid NJ archery hunting license prior to arriving in camp on October 18, 2024
Q. Is there a discounted rate if I live locally?
- No. Because of the structure of this program, we cannot offer a discount. One of the key components of this program is that entire weekend camp experience.
Q. A friend of mine is also registered, can we bunk together?
- All in-person camp attendee/hunters will be bunking in a dormitory style room.
Q. What to bring?
- A more detailed list will be provided to registrants prior to the event. Here are some basics: archery equipment, bedding, towels, toiletries, comfortable, warm clothing and shoes for workshops, hunting clothes, hiking and/or hunting boots, any snacks or beverages you may want or need.
Q. Is lodging included?
- Accommodations are included in the registration fee for Friday & Saturday night. We will be staying in bunk style cabin that is heated, has bathrooms with hot and cold water and showers.
Q. Are meals included?
- 7 meals are included in your registration fee. Lunch and dinner on Friday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday. Breakfast and lunch on Sunday. If you have any special dietary needs, please note that on your registration form.
Q. What is/are the closest airports?
- Newark Airport (NWR) is approximately 66 miles from camp. Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), Allentown, PA is approximately 72 miles from camp.
Q. Am I guaranteed to harvest a deer?
- Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that you will harvest a deer. We will do our best to give you an opportunity, but make no guarantees.
